How to play Star Battle

Make Star Battle your next activity in the game library. Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Look at what changes after your first action. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

Solve ten 6×6 puzzles with one star in every row, column and region. These boards use the one-star rule.

Practice beyond the first move

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

Your objective

Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Making your moves

  1. Tap to place a star, mark a cell or clear it.
  2. Respect fixed starter stars.
  3. Check rows, columns and coloured regions.
  4. Check puzzle verifies the final arrangement.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Check any mode label before starting.

One way to understand the rules

A placed star rules out all eight neighbouring squares. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the game’s format in mind.

Watch out for this

Different rows do not make diagonal neighbours legal. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
