Word Deduction: how a round works

Open Word Deduction, check the instructions and begin a round. Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Look at what changes after your first action.

Guess a five-letter answer from the included collection. Entries must contain five letters; accepted guesses are not checked against a complete dictionary.

A focus for your next round

Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules. Keep the objective visible.

The goal to keep in mind

Guess the five-letter answer in six attempts. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Take a moment to understand the current position.

The order of play

  1. Enter five letters.
  2. Green marks the correct position; gold marks an available copy elsewhere.
  3. Grey means no matching unused copy.
  4. Use the feedback to solve.

Using the playing area

Type a guess and press Check guess or Enter. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. A new-round button replaces the current round.

See the idea in action

An answer containing one E can award only one positive E mark in a guess containing two. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Verify the rule before continuing.

A common point of confusion

Repeated letters do not imply unlimited copies in the answer. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart.
